Mosaddek Hossain and Nurul Hasan Return to Bangladesh ODI Set-up for Australia Series

Bangladesh have recalled all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain and wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan to their ODI squad for the upcoming series against Australia. The duo have replaced Mahidul Islam and Afif Hossain in the squad for the first two matches of the three-match series.

Mosaddek will return to the ODI set-up for the first time since August 2022 after an impressive Dhaka Premier League (DPL) campaign. In the DPL, the 30-year-old scored a century and two fifties in five matches and also picked up 11 wickets.

On Mosaddek’s selection, chief selector Habibul Bashar said: “Mosaddek could bat at No. 6. He is in good form and has more skills to offer. He has performed well in the DPL and also possesses all-round ability. He bowls quite well and could provide balance for us in the middle order.”

Nurul has also returned to the squad after missing the ODI series against New Zealand. Explaining the changes, Bashar said: “We couldn’t provide Afif and Mahidul with a lot of opportunities. Replacing them is a tactical change.”

He added: “Nurul Hasan is replacing Mahidul because the latter is a top-order batter. Nurul bats around No. 6 or 7 as a wicketkeeper-batter. We believe Nurul is more skilful in that position.”

Bangladesh’s batting unit has struggled for consistency in recent ODI series against Pakistan and New Zealand, which has forced the selectors to make changes ahead of the Australia series.

The hosts will also rely on their pace attack, comprising Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam and Nahid Rana, while leg-spinner Rishad Hossain is expected to add further depth to the bowling unit.

Bangladesh and Australia will face each other in a three-match ODI series. All three matches will be played in Mirpur between 9 and 14 June.

Squad for the first two ODIs:

Mehidy Hasan Miraz (captain), Soumya Sarkar, Saif Hassan, Tanzid Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Tawhid Hridoy, Litton Das, Mosaddek Hossain, Nurul Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Tanvir Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam and Nahid Rana.
